Default Vista Beta 2 Ultimate Edition w/o Glass?

Hi,

I just installed Windows Vista Beta 2 Ultimate Edition, everything is
working fine but I am not able to find the option to load up Glass. I am
wondering if this is due that I dont have proper display drivers for my
M400. The tablet is packed with a Intel 965GM Graphic Card (I know not the
most fancy card).

I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on this matter.

Thanks alot,

G.

To get AERO Glass, your video card needs to support the Windows Display
Driver Model (WDDM), with a minimum of 64-MBs vRAM. If its shared system
memory, it needs to be configured with a minimum of 1 GB dual channel
memory, with 512 MBs going to OS.

The Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 950 on both the Intel® 945G and Mobile
Intel® 945GM Express Chipsets will support the Windows Vista Display Driver
model (WDDM) drivers.

I guess the key word for now is that they "will". I guess I got no choice to
wait

What's real interesting about this is that the new Core Duo Apple notebooks
(MacBook with the 950 graphics, MacBook Pro with the ATI X1600) may actually
be among the best mobiles for running the new microsoft operating system.

I'm always surprised at "professionals" who STILL have to be asked "Have you
checked (event viewer / syslog)".

Maybe but there is not support from Intel. Intel once again being too lazy
to code some decent drivers.

Maybe they are just not ready with the drivers. I agree with Robert, those
MacBook Pro's are definitely vistable capable, all they need is WDDM drivers
for the graphics and we are set to go.

It's frustrating for all of us but I'd rather they took their time and did
it "right".

I doubt laziness is the reason for the delay. It wasn't until fairly late on
in the Windows XP beta cycle when lots of manufacturers started to get their
act together for drivers there. What with the new driver structure and the
changing spec of the product it isn't much of a push to see a company decide
to wait until things are clear before starting work on code.

I think ATI do them don't they? The Pro uses the ATI X1600 - should be good
to go already.

When Intel get around to the 950 drivers the MacBook non-pro should do fine
too. Just got one of these the other day in fact, it's one sweet machine.
I'm waiting for a memory upgrade I have on order before I install Windows of
any kind on it though.

Yes, ATI is doing the graphics for most of the Intel Macs now, the PPC ones
used a combination of nVidia and ATI. Yep, the ATI drivers are definitely
available for the Radeon Mobility X1600, so AERO Glass should work just fine
on the MacBook Pro. Just that getting Vista installed on it is gonna be
hurdle and might not be supported until Apple bundles Boot Camp in OS 10.5
as an incentive upgrade.

I'll let you know as soon as my memory upgrade arrives and I can test it.
