Vista Business / Novell 7 shares Access Denied

Since the beta Novell client became available I installed it on my test
machine and can sign on to the Novell network. The problem is getting files
from my shares to open, the basic message is access denied, contact your
administrator.

I can see all the shared drives and open all the folders. The problem is I
can open .txt and .pdf documents but none of my Microsoft Office Files 2003
or Office 2007 (saved in 2003). I can't save those types of document types
either, but I can move .txt and .pdf files without issue.

I changed the value of the GPO Network Security: LAN Manager authentication
level to "Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session if negotiated," as outlined in
a web document without luck.

There are no errors in my event logs and turning off the local firewall
didn't help. McAfee 8.5i doesn't give me anything and the Novell guys here
are turning their heads.

It would be easier to find if text or Adobe 8 were a problem too...

Any ideas?
