Vista Can't Acess XP Files; XP Acesses Vista Without a Hitch

Posted: 12-04-2007, 11:20 PM
I'm trying to synch Outlook on laptop [Vista Business] and desktop [XP
Pro SP2]. I see the same behaviour with several programs - if I run
the synch program FROM XP, it works fine. But if I run the program
from the Vista laptop, I get an acess denied message. I can SEE the XP
box and I've tried changing the permissions on it to no useful result.
The XP box can see any folder designated as shared on the Vista box,
but Vista refuses to see any shares on the XP box.

All other workgroup / network activities work fine on the Vista box:
network storage, network printers, internet access, etc.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

If visibility is asymmetrical, you have either a personal firewall problem, or a
NetBT setting mismatch. I'd bet on the former.

We could diagnose the problem, using logs from "browstat status", "ipconfig
/all", "net config server", and "net config workstation", from each computer.
Read this article, and linked articles, and follow instructions precisely
(download browstat, and start the command window in Vista with "run as admin"!):
