Default Vista and Cox Security Suite

Has anyone experieced the marriage of Vista Business and Cox Security Suite?
When I install the Security Suite my internet access gets really really slow.
I did an uninstall and internet went back to it's normal fast speed, but the
minute I put Cox Security suite back on it slowed down. I don't know the
problem and of course Cox says it's a Vista problem. Anyone have any ideas??
Thanks.

I'll bet they are supplying a version of McAfee to their customers. That is
known to cause this problem.

I have already looked into that. There is no other antivirus software on the
machine. Which I was suprised to see.

Then since the Cox Security Suite doesn't work well with your computer,
use something else. Recommended antivirus programs are NOD32, Kaspersky,
and Avast if you want a free one. The built-in Windows Firewall is
adequate for most people.

I am having the same problem with slow internet connectivity after installing
Cox Security (Authentium). Disabling Cox does not work. If I uninstall Cox
things go back to normal.

I'd suggest skipping the "suite", instead use the Windows Firewall, any
other anti-spyware/anti-adware program (most of the best ones are free)
along with Windows Defender, and any one of several free antivirus programs
(I use, like and recommend the free AVG antivirus software).

If it hurts when you do that, don't do that. :-)

Thanks Richard...

I spoke to a 2nd level support person for Cox Security Suite (Authentium)
and found that Vista and the entire "suite" do not play well together.
Aparently using the Cox firewall changes the IP addy and the parental
controls mess things up too. They are planning to wait until SP1 comes out
for Vista before making changes. Until then, you can completely uninstall the
ENTIRE Cox suite, (clean off all remaining files/folders) no need to mess
with registry, then reinstall only the antivirus and spyware part of the Cox
suite. I tried this and works fine now. You can use the Windows firewall if
needed. If not, you can use another software or hardware firewall.

Good enough - at least they were up-front about their problem, some folks
aren't quite so accommodating.
