Vista CTP 5308 Install Question

Posted: 04-26-2006, 06:00 PM
I am a new subscriper to TechNet and jsut received all of my cd's included
with the subscription. Included with the cd was the Beta version 5308 of
Vista. When installing it I get to the Product ID and input the Vista
CommunityTechnology Preview key supplied with my subscription but I then
receive an setup.exe - Entry point not found error.
Question - Am I using the right Product ID or is there another one I need
to be using? If I am using the right key then any suggestions on the error I
am receiving?

Thanks

Jason

First - if you have a DVD drive suggest you change your subscription to DVDs
simply to reduce number of CDs. Taking a guess here - you are trying to
"fresh" install Vista from the CD to the HD. One cause for the error (this
not an invalid key error) is trying to "fresh" install Vista to a second HD.
If you have XP on your computer - boot XP - Begin Vista installation -
select "custom" installation - select target as the HD (partition) on which
you want to install Vista. BTW - If XP is on one drive, usually C,
installing Vista on another, say D, will give you dual boot capability.

You right DVD's would be much better. Vista was actually sent on a DVD and I
had to burn the ISO to a DVD in order to attempt the install. Just some I am
understanding correctly you are saying this is not an invalid product key
error? I am attempting to do a fresh install over XP but when the DVD
launches I just have an option to start the installation, nothing about doing
a custom install, and then asks me about updating windows and then the
product id. After that is when I receive the error. This computer only has
one drive but I can throw another one in it if the upgrade from XP is not
going to work.

Another option is to create another partition. Suggest you "hang" in for a
while - you may get other suggestions posted.
