Vista Does Not Work With Either Network Cards

Posted: 11-13-2007, 11:29 PM
Hello:

This morning, I logged onto my computer to download the new Zune updates for
my player and my Zune. While installing, my computer rebooted and now Vista
does not seem to use my wired or wireless network cards. The two-computer
icon in the tray is still present, but it will not detect a connection when I
plug my network cord into it. As for the wireless card, the window that
comes up to show you available networks is fine, but when I try to connect to
one, it hangs and does nothing. The Device Manager displays the two cards to
have up-to-date drivers and are operating, but when I right-click on the
network tray icon and select Diagnose and Repair, it says there is a problem
with the wired card.

I am sure it is a Vista problem because I can boot in Ubuntu (dual-boot;
that's how I am posting this) and both cards work fine.

Computer:

Vista 32-bit / Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy
Asus G1s
2.2ghz Core 2 Duo Centrino
GeForce 8600GTm 256mb

If anyone can shed some light on a solution, I'd be very thankful.

If you start it with clean boot, can you access the network?

I followed the steps on
"http://www.chicagotech.net/netforums/viewtopic.php?t=57" and did a clean
boot, but the network card still did not show and connections.

I looked in the Event Viewer, and between the times of 9:46:42 AM - 12:04:28
PM EST, the time that the problem arose:

A few sets of Service Control Manager Instances:
-ghaio failed because it is not a valid Win32 application
-p2k service which depends on BUSBD service failed
-TrueVector Internet Monitor failed - no ZoneAlarm Firewall driver
-ZoneAlarm Firewall driver failed - not found
and in one set:
-lvupdtio failed because it is not a valid Win32 application

also a few instances of:
-WerSvc- Windows Feedback Platform not parsed Error Code 8014FFF9
-Volume Shadow Copy Service error querying for IVssWriterCallback interface
hr=0x80070005

There were also a few warnings pertaining to:
WLAN-AutoConfig:
-successfully stopped
-Extesibility Module stopped

As for the ZoneAlarm problem, I installed it to replace Norton (completely
uninstalled) and it bluescreened my computer, and started physical memory
dump, but I turned it off quick and restarted it, and the only things that
happened was it booted a little slower than normal; the internet connections
still worked fine.

Hope that helped.
