Vista doesn't automatically connect

Posted: 06-17-2006, 10:54 AM
Ok. First of all, I'm impressed at how easy it is to connect to my wireless
network on Vista. Windows did it all its self. Congrats on that part.

However, no matter how many times I do connect, Vista never connects to it
automatically when booting up. It's almost as if it forgets the network on
shutting down or restarting, which is silly because I told it to remember the
network. Doesn't this mean it should connect on startup like XP?

I am having the same problem. No many how many trys to get it to stay
connected, when ever it goes to sleep, hibernate, or shut down, it "forgets"
what network I want it to connect to. I have like 3 other wireless networks
around my house but it should still connect everytime to the network I want
it too connect to.

Here's what I've noticed about wireless Vista.... it is easy to connect
but it will not automatically connect to an unsecured network

unless.... you go into

reorder wireless network

then right click on the wireless network you want, then select Connec
automatically in the dialog box

That's the only way I've found to get to that particular dialog box.
As far as I can tell, if you have a secured network, then it's happy t
connect automatically after you input your wep

I'm having the exact same issue - the same with Bluetooth. It seems to think
that it doesn't need to connect. I would say it happens about 80% of the
time. I used to think the radio had turned itself off - but that's not the
case. It just doesn't connect like XP does when coming out of hibernation or
from an off state.

I have a similar issue with Bluetooth - however, in this case, the radio
does actually turn off, and I have to re-press the radio button to turn it
back on.

Would love to hear from a subject matter expert on this... '

Specs:
Acer Ferrari 4000
Vista Ultimate
Broadcom 802.11g Wi-Fi

Thanks!

I have the exact same issue. It's like the radio doesn't think that it needs
to connect when it wakes up.

Love to get a view from a subject matter expert on this.

Running Vista Ultimate
Acer Ferrari 4000 PC

Having a similar issue with Bluetooth - however the radio does physically
turn off (and the button has to be re-pressed to turn it back on).
