Vista doesn't start up properly after resizing partitions

Posted: 10-22-2007, 01:25 AM

Hey,
First, I need to explain my current situation. Before any problems
happened, I was dual-booting Vista and XP. I also had a Home partition
where I kept all my personal files. (if it matters, I also have a
HP_Recovery Partition totaling to 4 partitions).

My home partition was running out of space, so I decided to resize my
Vista and XP partitions and grow my Home partition using Gparted. I
don't know if it matters, but the Gparted cd I used was slightly old.
After succesfully resizing everything to what I wanted, I no longer
could boot into Vista (although XP still worked). I read about this
online and found out a way to fix it by using the Repair feature from my
Vista DVD. After repairing my Vista partition using the DVD, it now
boots correctly. The only problem is that many settings are missing. It
changed the Vista drive which was C: before to G:. My Home partition is
now C:. Also, when logging into a profile in Vista, it creates temporary
local settings and warns me that no settings will be saved. Last, many
programs are messed up (maybe because of Vista on G: now?) so it's all
very corrupted. I can still use Vista, but nothing is saved and almost
nothing works. When looking at the drives from XP, nothing seems to be
missing, it's just different letters for Vista.

I read some place that because my Gparted cd was outdated, that could
have caused the problem. I also read about using VistaBootPro, although
I don't know how that will help (I'm also afraid of messing even more
things up). As a last side note, my Windows XP works fine. Please help
me to restore Vista so that I can use it back to normal. If needed, I
can post a screenshot of how Vista looks when booting to it. Thanks.
