Vista Freezes - Hard Disks?

Posted: 11-19-2007, 04:09 AM

Here's the deal. I just put together a new computer, and decided to get
Vista with it. However, when I've been trying to install a few programs
Vista just freezes. The Hard Drive activity light stays lit constantly,
and I have to hit the reset button to get it resolved.

The hard drives are brand new Seagates, 320GB SATA (WD3200KSRTL). I
have 4GB of Corsair PC6400 RAM, a XFX i680 LT SLI mobo, and a E6750
Core 2 Duo processor. I've run memtest, and the RAM checks ok. My next
step is to check the hard drives for bad sectors. Assuming that comes
up ok (I don't know why they wouldn't) what's my next step?

Thanks.

Hi,

Rather than suspecting hardware, look instead to installed software. Disable
things like antivirus and antispyware applications when installing software,
as the often overly-agressive settings they use can interfere with proper
installation of additional software.
