Actually if you look at the seond message under yours, you will see that i am
dealing with the same problem, though with LOTS of vista computers all going
to routers or cable modems. I am also searching for a good answer. On the
chance that you are fighting a dif problem, Have you checked to see if
network discovery is turned on, and that it shows the network is a public
network.

Thank you for answering. Yes, I actually changed network discovery on, and
right after that, the red X was gone. Then I closed computer, and when I
opened it again, the same red X is there. From some pictures, I've seen
people are having router/modem picture in the middle, where I'm having
"net" -picture..
Do you think this makes internet work slowly..?

I cant answer that fully at this time, I am still traking issues with Vista.
I had a LOT of them in the past week and a ½. A lot of them will not allow
network discovery to stay on. Tried doing it in safe mode with networking, no
change, but you may want to try that on the off chance it helps you out.

Maybe works for web based navigation in the awful web forum
interface but does not apply to anyone using a proper NNTP reader.
