VISTA intermittent locking

Have to type fast as every 5 seconds or so the screen returns to 'Welcome' (ha ha), LOCKS, & I have to click on my user icon to get back . Have tried system restore, deleting recently installed programmes & updates. Nothing works & I'm desperate. Please help. PLEASE!
