I realize completely what you are thinking but that is what I want to do. I
keep an image file and another machine. This would be the REAL test. When the
retail version comes out I will upgrade, NOT BEFORE.
If yo cannot understand my reason , so be it.

The architecture of the operating system does not allow Vista x64 to upgrade
from XP x86, it would cause a whole lot of conflicts with existing 32 bit
programs and registry issues that would just be a waste of time. Look at the
amount of problems and XP x86 to Vista x86 upgrade is causing, seriously
now, imagine a XP x86 upgrade to Vista x64. Vista does not even allow Vista
x86 to Vista x64 upgrades.

Does that mean that my 32 bit programs will not run in Vista 64? If so, I
guess it will be a LONG time before I go t that since I have MANY
applications and most will not be 64 bit for a LONG time. I do not understand
why it would not support both but that is what yo seem to imply?

I really have no time for this for about a month as I will be in the
Mountains and Deserts of New Mexico from Jun 20 to Jul 12 so I won't get
started now. That will be a MUCH nicer thing anyhow.

Does anyone know why there are usenet froups at the microsoft public server
but they have no access to the messages? The other public groups work fine
with my newsreader. It would be a lot easier that way. I suppose they would
not have control then, oh well!

You can install and run 32bit programs in 64bit Vista. They will not
install if they have 16bit installers though.

Real Audio does not work either.

Maybe a clean install on a separate partition just to learn the interface
might be wroth it, doubt it though.

Well, yes but I cannot test what I cannot run. They know this stuff does not
work, the compatibility check told me so. They obviously are a long way from
supporting a reasonable set of hardware.
