Vista Local Access only

Posted: 07-09-2007, 10:26 PM
We have a few Vista in our company, some of them are working well, but some
of them always show Local Access only. I found if I remove the computers from
domain, then internet access is working, if in the domain, no internet. But
intranet is working. I can ping the router, but can not enter the router
management console through https.

Is there anyone else has the same issue?

Check the DNS status first by using nslookup. If it is OK, disable IPv6. By the way, are they wireless computers?

I tried nslookup, the DNS is correct, I also disabled IPv6, it's still the
same, they are not wireless computers. Thanks!

We have the exact same problem. But, it's only sporadic. One machine will
connect fine one day (wired and wireless), but the next day show "local
only". Tried restarting, tried disabling and reenabling the adapter
(sometimes worked), uninstalled and reinstalled the adapter, tried only
wired, tried only wireless, diabled IPv6... The only thing I've noticed the
last two times this has happened is that our Default Gateway shows 0.0.0.0,
then right below that is the correct default gateway address. I thought
maybe we were getting something weird from our 2003 servers. However, I
switched to manual IP and put in the correct gateway. It STILL showed
0.0.0.0 above the correct address. The machines that connect okay do NOT
have 0.0.0.0 listed anywhere.

We have two different computers with this problem. Both have the Intel 1000
network card and the Intel Pro/Wireless 3945 with the most current drivers.
We also have these cards connecting fine with XP. Clearly Vista is hosing
something up. I've seen lots of reports of this problem but nothing from
Microsoft. Hopefully it will be fixed with tomorrow's updates.

I am also experiencing the same problem with several Vista pcs on my network.
My vista machine has Local Only access after two days of trying every
option, the odd thing is I can use the internet on my virtual machine running
on the same physical machine.

Do you have 169.254.x.x IP address? If yes, it could be the incompatible
issue. Try to install new firmware for the router or driver for NIC. Or this
Microsoft update may fix the issue too.

Windows Vista Update and downloadThis update may fix some DHCP issue - The
default gateway setting is lost when you wake a Windows Vista-based computer
from sleep ...

Go into system/devices and click on properties for lan/ethernet and navigate

I was having this same issue with a few Vista pcs on our network, and it
turned out to be a wireless router that was set to handle DHCP on the same ip
range as our network. why it only effected vistas i am not sure. But as
soon as we took it off the network all our vista PCs were fine.
