VISTA MC PLAYBACK ERROR: RESTRICTED CONTENT

Posted: 06-10-2006, 05:12 PM
Ok guys, I am running Vista Beta 2 and in the media center portion whenever I
start watching my premium channels I get that annoying playback error that
asks to renew access to the DRM content. I know this was an issue with MCE
pre-rollup 2 days. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896035
Is there a fix for this that anyone knows?

There isn't anything as yet - I'll do a bit of research and try and get back
to you )

Now it is no longer giving the DRM error, instead it is saying that it is
Restricted content and that access to my computer has not been allowed by the
cable provider. I doubt that calling the cable company would help at all. Oh
well not a big deal right now as I can plug in my other drive to use MCE 05.
I just really hope they fix this. In further research I have read that it is
an issue with the introduction of the CableCARD. I dont really like that
option and would suggest that they leave the option to run Vista's MC how
current MCE users are.

DVI out to DVI can cause this. Use a DVI to VGA adapter to a VGA port,
or use svid, or usea breakout cable DVI to component. Basically
digital is broken and you need to use analog.

That is not really an option for me, both my video cards are DVI only and I
am using my DVI monitor for viewing. I read that this might have something to
do with the actuall coding of the Media Center in Vista. Basically they were
coding the ROllup2 for MCE 05 at the same time they were coding the MC in
Vista, unfortunately they were using the code of MCE pre rollup2 so now we
have the issues that MCE2005 had before Rollup2.

I am experiencing this "restricted content" too.

To reassure all of you:
I am using an ATI TV wonder elite card on a P4 with 1 Gb of RAM, Now running
my Vista Beta 2. (never had a single issue when running MCE 2005 rollup 2).
There is no DVI input on my card so thats not an issue. I have tried all
three other typed of input (RCA, Coax and S-Video) all of these option yeild
the same "restricted content" after a minute or two of air play. One issue I
am seeing that I did not see mentioned here is that the content is displayed
in black and white before it locks me out.

The Media Center was really the only resaon I beta'ed Vista so this has
stopped me dead in my tracks. I hope I have a fix soon, otherwise this was
pointless.

Same boat here. Let me circle back around. What build are you guys using
and what is your location. Perhaps Comcast is doing their thing again. I'm
using 5472 in the Washington DC area...
