Vista and Netgear RT314 router

This really has me stumped. I have read that as hardware routers are
independent of Vista and shouldn't have compatibility issues. However, I
cannot ping through my router to the outside world from Vista RC1. I can
ping through the same router from another laptop (XP Pro) on the same
LAN. Tracert from Vista gets to the router and stops with a timeout at
the next hop. I also have remote desktop issues into Vista from work but
have not tried bypassing the router yet. I have a hunch it might fix the
problem. It connects OK but the screen freezes for up to 30 seconds at a
time which makes it totally unusable.

I connected Vista directly to the cable modem bypassing the router and
ping/tracert work fine. I reconnected the router and the same problem
returned. Note: as others have suggested I have turned off the
autoscaling in Vista but it didn't seem to do anything.

Any ideas? I am thinking of replacing my old router (about 5 years old
now) with a fast, wireless unit but have no idea what brand or model to
go with.

Thanks,
Dave

Dave,
Have you played with the MTU settings on the router--I often see little
quirky things like this related to MTU, although not necessarily with
Vista--It's worth a try!
