Not quite. None of the posters there indicated that they tried what I suggested.
The closest anyone got to it was trying to delete the History's index.dat
but if it is a permissions problem (which I suspect it may be) even that
may not be enough. I'm suggesting you delete the whole folder,
not just the index.dat (which is a common fix for this symptom in other OS.)
BTW I suspect you are more likely to find informed help for this symptom
from a newsgroup which specializes in your OS security.
Alternatively, you could try running ProcMon to find out exactly what
files and directories are being accessed and what is happening with them.
I believe the location of the History has changed between XP and Vista,
so first you need to find out whether than change actually occurred when
your History "migrated". E.g. if History is still pointing at your old
%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\History
folder you probably don't "own" it any more. You could try using cacls
in a cmd window to check on that possibility and perhaps even change
the ownership so you could use it. But if you delete all traces of History
in either location I think that there is a good chance that it would be recreated
in the correct location successfully.
Good luck
Robert
