Vista not starting after Upgrade

Posted: 07-04-2006, 02:30 PM
Hi,
after upgrading XP SP2. Vista won't start.
The Completing Update Screens (the one with the many dots) completes and the
setup restarts my system.
After the boot process i get a black screen with my mouse pointer, which is
working nicely; that's all.
Booting to Safe Mode either with Network or without or starting in VGA Mode
didn't go any further. Except for Safe Mode which displays me Windows Version
and "-Safe Mode-" on my black screen.

Interesting: Hitting "shift" several times give me the sound of the Pop-Up.
But still nothing is displayed.

The pop-up sound indicates that the "StickyKeys" dialogue box has opened;
which leads to the presumption that Vista is running "properly." It seems to
me that the upgrade imported graphic drivers that aren't compatable with
Vista. I'd suggest downloading and updating your drivers BUT you can't even
see anything to do that.

For a little more evaluation of the Video Issue:

What Monitor type are you using?
What graphic adapter are you using?

Here are some key sequences which will access some helpful features:

If this yields no results try opening the "task manager" this way

To Access the TASK MANAGER

CTRL+ALT+DEL;
Down Arrow;
Down Arrow;
Down Arrow;
Down Arrow;
Enter;

If the task manager shows up; check to see if the explorer.exe process is
running. This process enables the task-bar and other critical OS features.
If it's not running File -> New Process -> "explorer.exe" -> Enter

If the task manager doesn't open and you want to try to launch the
explorer.exe process anway, here's the single stroke key sequence to run it
blind.

Windows Key;
Tab;
Tab;
Up Arrow;
Enter;
type "explorer" (without "");
Enter

the complex key stroke sequence is:

Windows Key + R;
type "explorer" (without "");
Enter

Hope this helps.
