Vista OEM Activation, replacing faulty motherboard

Hello

I have the Vista OEM ultimate edition. I built the PC myself. I originally
activate it against my original motherboard about 2 months ago. Now the
motherboard has died and need a replacement motherboard. I have tried
everywhere to get an identical motherboard to the one I original have but it
has been discontinued and no longer available.

I now in the process in getting another motherboard. All the other hardware
(graphics card, hard drive, CD/DVD rom drives, memory, processor etc) will
stay the same, only the motherboard needs changing.

Will I have any problems calling Microsoft to reactivate my copy of vista. I
will not be reinstalling the software as it is already installed. I got all
the original DVD rom + product code + oem sticker.

Sounds like you'll likely need a new license. I think your machine would be
considered a new one under OEM rules. Yours is a case where a retail version
has major advantages over OEM.

I had a MB go bad and had to change mine. I called MS for activation and
made sure that I mentioned that I changed the MB. They didn't give me any
problems once I told them that.

If internet activation fails, just tell them you had a motherboard go bad
and they'll give you out a code to activate it, shouldn't have any problems.
