Vista on G:, Want to Delete XP on C:

Does Vista keep any files on drive c: ? My c:\ partition contains XP and
I'd like to wipe the partition due to problems and that fact it is overdue
for a cleanup (4yrs old or more) and install XP64.

So I take it you set up a dual boot??
In which case formatting the C drive will seriously impede your starting any
operating system.
Vista placed boot files in the root of the C drive and changed the master
boot record.
If you format the C drive in order to delete XP you will need to reinstall
Vista..........if you are planning to install XP64 do so before you
reinstall/repair install Vista as you need to have the older OS in place
before you do the dual boot thing again with Vista

Peter,

I thought a bit more about this after posting.

Couldn't I install XP64 and do a Vista "startup repair" by booting from the
Vista Disk. That would restore the Vista load menu.

My suggestion is that you install XP Pro x64 as you plan to do and then
reinstall Vista if you cannot repair the boot configuration data store that
will be wiped out by the installation of XP x64. You will have to do a
clean installation of XP x64 anyway since upgrade install is not possible.

It has your boot files on it for Vista and XP.

Vista will break if you format that.
