Vista RC1 Installation Problem

Posted: 10-03-2006, 07:34 PM
I had no problems installing RC1 on my relatively recent Dell Inspiron 9300.
However, on my home-built Athlon XP 2400 machine, I can't even get the
installer (both 5600 and 5728) to the point where it present a dialog box.
After the initial "Starting Windows..." progress bar screen, the screen goes
black and the system stops. I waited for about 3-4 hours each time - no go.
I've also attempted restarting several times to help the installer figure out
the lock-up and bypass it, but I've had no such luck.

I installed 5600 from Windows XP thinking that might help. The install
completed until the first reboot, afterwards, I'm presented with the new
Vista installer background, but not dialog box. The mouse moves just fine
(so the system is responsive), but there is no dialog box to continue. Hard
drive light stays off (no activity).

Any clues?

I have EXACTLY the same problem. Vista Beta and RC! work perfectly on my Dell
Inspiron 5900 however, on my newly built AMD Dual Core 4200. It gets stuck in
an endless loop with the progress bar looping. I haven't waited as long as
you, but 2 hours. I restart after because I know it's not suppose to take
that long, if you or anyone else discover a solution, please post
it....Thanks

I get beyond the progress bar part. Just right after that, the screen
blanks and never does anything else.

Is this an upgrade, i.e., running setup from within the existing OS, or is
this a clean install, i.e., booting from DVD to install?
