VISTA RC1 only an Update to Vista Beta2?

Posted: 07-17-2006, 10:32 PM
Will RC1 be only an Update to Vista Beta2 and can be applied only to a
functioning validated install of Vista Beta2?
Any insight, info, speculation, skinny or gossip gratefully accepted.
Thanks, Art

RC1 will be a new build. Upgrading from Beta 2 to RC1 is not recommended.
RC1 should be clean install only.
Having a validated Beta 2 is not a prerequisite for installing RC1.

According to a Microsoft Website: You Need to Have an Activated Beta 2 CPP
Copy in Order to Receive RC1, Just FYI.

The pertinent part in the Monday, June 12th blog is:

Please let us underscore a very important point surrounding Windows Vista
Beta2 that can be easily overlooked in all the excitement to download and
install the code: it is very important that every user activate Windows
Vista Beta2 within the first 14 days of installation. Activation allows us
at Microsoft to test our support infrastructure as well as the activation
process itself. In addition, we'll be unable to provide you with a copy of
RC1 (Release Candidate 1, the release subsequent to Beta2) unless your copy
of Beta2 is activated.

Interesting. I wonder why nothing to that effect was mentioned on the
Windows Vista website for the CPP.

Thanks for the link, Dotcom

Zapper - there was nothing regarding this in the email from Microsoft, or on
the Get Ready site.

It was either on the Get Ready Site, or in the email that they sent.
I can not find it now...

The GetReady page only says,
"The information on this page is intended for Customer Preview Program
participants. Participants will receive an e-mail message with additional
information when Windows Vista Release Candidate 1 (RC1) is available later
this year. Thank you for testing Windows Vista."
