Vista Ultime: issue with File sharing

Posted: 11-26-2008, 09:38 AM
Hi everybody,

I have a small 2 PC network and I configured my new Vista PC for file
sharing.;

The network is operational but I just cannot manage in "one operation" to
share all folders and subfolders. And of course I am quite reluctant to
grant the authorisations one folder at a time.

What I have done is the following:

Assuming I am user "Daniel" on the Vista PC, I Right-clicked on this Daniel
folder
Clicked share,
Clicked advanced sharing, Checked the box that says share this folder
Clicked the permissions button
Checked all the allow box next to full control

Then, Clicked the security tab,
Clicked the edit button,

Clicked the Add button, typed 'Everyone' into the box and clicked OK,
Checked all the boxes next to the permissions,
Clicked OK.

Did I do it right?

but, the authorisations granted to the Daniel folder were not "transmitted"
to the subfolders.

So how can I do this? Or, as an alternative, how can I start easily from
scratch?

many thanks in advance for your kind help.
best rgds,
Daniel

I would assign permission to the users who need to access the folders
instead of everyone. The you may need to check Replace all existing
inheritable permissions on all descendants in the Advanced. This post may
help too.

Hi
Everyone means every one that is listed.

Thank you Robert, Thank you Jack.

will all try this.

However I must say I am totally confused now: although the subfolders don't
seem to have inherited the authorisations I granted to their parent folder
(except for the ones I manually dealt with), when working on the other PC of
my network (using XP), it seems that I can access all folders and files
under user/Daniel! on the 'Vista' PC. As if the authorizations were indeed
granted for total control to all the subfolders, as I wished, but do not
show in the different security tabs or in the associated folders icons as
seen in Explorer.

Sorry if I am not too clear.

any clue?

Best rgds,
Daniel
