vista - vpn can not connect to any \\

locally i can connect to \\server and map network drives
when i go off site and vpn i can ping server and connect to http://server
but i can not connect to \\server for some odd reason
outlook opens with out a problem

but i need to map drives when i am vpn into the office

What's the system error when using net view \\serveripaddress?
