Vista Wireless Internet Issue

Posted: 05-26-2008, 10:17 PM
Hi all, I have a wireless issue at work with my Vista laptop. I am able to
connect to my works wireless service ok, but cannot access the internet. I
can connect to everything locally without issues but not the internet. I can
do everything locally such as file/print, connect to exchange, etc

I even tried to ping the router/ default gateway but just get time outs even
though it'son the same subnet.

All other laptops (which are Win XP) are able to access the internet from
the wireless service without issue. When pinging the router they get
successful responses.

I've tried recreating wireless connection on vista laptop but issues
continues and tried googling but cannot find anything.

Any vista pro's out there?

Posting the result of ipconfig /all here may help.

first step would be to unbind IPv6 and see if that makes a
difference

I would have expected the Default Gateway to have the same IP address
as DHCP Server and DNS Server. Looks like you have a somewhat strange
setup. Also, your second DNS server address looks unusual -- if you
are using a normal single router setup, then Gateway, DHCP and DNS
should all point to the same IP address. Most routers use 192.168.x.1
as their address, unless you have set yours up specifically to be
different.

While it is perfectly permissible to have different DNS servers (not
use your router which will pass through to your ISP's servers), your
DHCP and Gateway addresses really should be the same (unless perhaps
you are linking to a Domain Server. Are you set up in a Domain or a
Workgroup?

Got my issue sorted. I changed the IP address DHCP was giving me to another
IP and it works ok now. There must be an issue with the 192.168.10.50 IP or
something, because now that I'm on 192.168.10.52 internet access works fine.

I've set up an exlusion for that IP to a dummy IP so no one else gets it.

PS- I'm in a domain environment, two local DNS servers incase one fails and
the router is actually a UTM device (internet router, URL filtering, firewall
etc)

Yes, the DNS is OK. Is it possible you have another DHCP server assign the
same IP range?
