Vista - Wireless network connection

Posted: 03-18-2007, 03:16 AM
I have a new HP notebook with a Wireless network adapter, and Windows home
Premium installed. After a couple days of reasonable operation, suddenly
the wireless adapter is no longer connecting. The WEP setting is the same,
as is the ip setting, gateway, etc. I would say it has something to do with
the WEP setting since it will connect with other access points that are
unsecured.

Does anyone have any ideas? I'm afraid that Vista is too screwed up for me
to figure out.

John

The first obvious thing to try would be a System Restore to the point where
it worked OK. My notebook has never lost its access in this household...
nor has the wireless desktop. Did you check your router is still
functioning? Can other wireless PCs connect OK?

I am able to duplicate this problem at will. If I turn off the security
settings for the wireless connection, I am able to connect using the Vista
notebook. When I turn the WEP settings back on, the Vista notebook can no
longer connect, but my XP wireless notebook can connect, as can my XP
wireless desktop.

If I do an ipconfig /all, it shows that the wireless adapter is
disconnected. If I try to renew or release, it says that these things
cannot be done because the adapter is disconnected.
