Vista Wireless Networking Problem

Posted: 10-31-2007, 03:06 PM
Hi guys i have just installed vista on my machine and i'm having an issue
with the wireless networking. I'm trying to connect my machine to my router.
I have tried three different wireless usb adapters when installed they appear
in device manager as working correctly and i checked the drivers and they are
all correct. However when i do a search for networks it finds none. My router
is in the same room as the machine so it should have no problems finding it,
also i have a laptop that finds the network so i know its broadcasting. The
adapter appears in "Network Connections" and when i diagnose it all i get is
same message, no network in range. Also i'm new to vista but there is no
wireless icon in the task bar notification tray, is this normal?

I really hope someone has some useful information for me.

Cheers in advance guys!

If your computer has wireless on/off button, make sure it is on. This link
may help.

the laptop doesn't have a signal ...the laptop doesn't have a signal or icon
.... Since you don't see the have the signal icon, it may be off. Bob Lin,

My experience with USB Wireless Networking adapters (Not Bluetooth,
different animal) has been hit and miss as far as their being actually
functional. Sure, they show up as present and say they are working ok.
They are not, or they are. No in between. Another thing; are you running
64 bit Vista or 32 bit? I think you will find the drivers don't work in 64
bit, even if they (Belkin, Netgear for me) say they do.
The PCI bus adapters work pretty well, but I hate having to mess with the
USB 'thumb' adapters. And again, there's the 64 bit driver problem for
those too.
