Vista-Xp Network, unable to see xp machine

Posted: 02-01-2009, 01:59 AM

Strange behaviour, Vista 64-XP 32 network using Netgear Router. At Vist
start up when XP is already running I am unable to see the XP compute
from the Vista computer, even though the XP is seen on the Vista Networ
Map
When XP is started after Vista computer is up then all is normal an
correct. At all times the XP computer can see and access the Vist
computer, the problem appears only when Vista is booted after the X
bootup

Are they both in the same workgroup? Do you have network discovery on

This layer-link patch is already installed on my XP computer...I can se
the XP from the Vista Network Map, no problem. This is strictly the fac
that if I boot Vista machine first all is fine, but if the Xp boot
first then I am unable to see or share from the Vista even though XP i
seen on the Vista Netwook Map

Does your XP PC have Service Pack 3 installed? If so, you need to reinstall
that Link Layer .....! Reason: SP 3 does not include the Link Layer even so
it may appear in the properties of your XP network. Check your Event Viewer
for errors. There is a certain type of error that appears each time when the
XP machine boots.
Take that error and google it and you will find the solution which is
reinstalling the Link Layer or go to this website:

http://x3webworx3.spaces.live.com/bl...75AE!234.entry

I used the suggested solution and it worked. To explain: I have a laptop
with Vista and a desktop with XP SP 3. The network was working but the
network map showed the Vista machine as not connected to the network. After
I applied the suggested fix; Vista showed the laptop as connected again. I
hope this helps.

Ok,...after trying many fixes I've finally found the problem
I had two connections running on my XP machine (1-ethernet,1-wireless)
why?...any how after shutting down one Vista no longer has a proble
seeing my Xp machine regardless of bootup sequence. Another case of sel
inflicted chaos
