Volume / Sound issues

For some reason, yesterday my sound started being really
unbalanced, and if I listened to a song the voice would be
totally drowned out and the sound would be really thin.
So I went into my volume control and played around with
it, and figured out that I have to slide the 'Wave' slider
all the way to the left for it to sound normal. But when
I do that and 'x' out of the volume control, the problem
will return in a minute or two. How can I fix this
without keeping the volume control open ALL THE TIME?

I've been having the same problem. Once, a long time ago,
but i fixed it somehow. And now it's happened again. Arg!
Please, help with this?

I remembered what I did.

Unplug your speakers, and then plug them back in. Fixed it
last time, and this time.
