VPN Error 732 Could not agree on PPP protocols

Posted: 03-31-2007, 04:26 PM
I'm having trouble getting a VPN set up in Vista to my client's office which
has worked fine for years under XP. I can get to the connecting and Verifying
ID / PW notification but then get error 732 "Your computer and the remote
computer could not agree on PPP protocols". The client's server is a 2000/XP
default, PPTP, 40 bit encryption. I have tried switching every setting I can
think of but no luck.

Anyone have any suggestions for me???

Thanks!!!

Check both server and client Authentication and encryption setting and make sure both have the same settings. Or this link may help,

ras error code
Error 682 Error 691 Error 711 Error 720 Error 721 VPN Error 732: The PPP negotiation is not ... Error 720: No PPP control protocols configured. Resolution: ...

Thanks Robert, but I cannot see any differences between the Vista settings
and my old XL settings which still work. The only one is MS CHAP or MS CHAP
v2 - under XP I have only MS CHAP but that's not in Vista (just MS CHAP v2).

Running out of checkboxes to try

Hi Vic,
MSCHAP has been deprecated in Vista. It was supported on XP. To get your
connections to work you need to have MSCHAPv2 enabled on Vista and also on
the server. THe other option is to use CHAP or PAP protocols for
authentication. However, these are much less secure than MSCHAPv2. Microsoft
recommends MSCHAPv2.

thanks
