Warnning:
Your computer does not meet the minimum specifications necessary to run this
software. You may experience errors during operation. The video card does not
have the necessary specifications. (VRAM 64MB).

My graphics card is a Radeon 9600 Pro 256MB

Ok. Now I know what video card you are using, as I asked above. Same
suggestion: update your video card drivers from http://ati.amd.com

Sounds like the game isn't detecting your system specifications. Since this
is a new game (PES2008?) I'd wager a couple scenarios are occuring...

1. Game doesn't like your video card, thinks it's too old, or is just not
supported.

2. Vista isn't reporting something correctly to the game making it freak out
(unlikely) (DirectX issues)

3. Your card may not actually have 256megs of ram on it, it might only have
32megs of vram and the rest comes from shared system ram.
--

For number 1, check with the game makers website, see if they have a support
area and see if they list the minimum supported video cards for the game.
Check the game box for the minimum requirements, if it says minimum radeon
x700 or something like that then you may be foobar. Or not, usually what
that means, is if you call the game maker they don't have to help you
because your card is older and they didn't test the game on your card, ergo,
not guaranteed to work.

#2, no idea, check all drivers, directx, etc.

#3 Might try a program like PC Wizard that reports how much ram your video
card actually has. Also if you right click on your Computer icon (in start
menu or on the desktop), choose properties. Take a look at the System RAM
reported. If you have 1 gig of ram, this number should be 1024 unless some
of it is going to shared video card stuff. If it says something significatly
lower then you may not have 64megs vram on your card.

I know, this is all highly doubtful, but you're looking for brain storms,
here ya go. Googled your card, couldn't tell if the RAM was shared or not,
probably not, so you should be good which bends me slightly more towards #1.
Good luck.

Andy,

Thanks for your reply. I think I have sorted it out, kind of. I unistalled
the latest ATI Catalyst driver for my card. I then went to Device manager and
went in to install the driver manually from a list. It showed the ATI
Catalyst drivers and a rollback catalyst driver. Also on this list was a
Microsoft WDDM (Windows Display Driver Model )driver. I installed this one
and guess what, the game works. Although I cannot access any of the cards
properties, the games graphics are not that great, but at least I can play
the game.

Just another note - The ATI Catalyst driver was also stopping the media
player and the media centre from playing. with Microsoft WDDM (Windows
Display Driver Model ) driver they both work. Mad or what!
