wdk 6000 installation headache

1. I execute wdk 6000 setup.exe on my XP machine
2. Installing the wdk documentation is not allowed since "doc explorer
8.0" is not found
3. The setup program recommends executing the wdk 6000 installer
program
4. The installer program displays a button to press to install doc
explorer 8.0
5. I press this button but it has no effect whatsoever

Is the wdk 6000 package compatible with XP?
How can I obtain documentation for wdk?
