Weary of Norton

LewBob, the best place for anything Norton is in the bin, not on your PC. In
the days of Windows 95/98 Norton was one of the best software applications -
even I gave it praise. Since XP, 2003, and now Vista I have found that any
Norton software creates more problems than it actually cures. I wouldn't use
it and I certainly, now, don't even recommend it. There are plenty of
freeware anti virus and firewall application available. AVG is one and Zone
Alarm is a good firewall.

I am using a dial-up at the moment. Yes, I too had Vista Home Premium with a
60 day free trial of Norton that came with the laptop, that entire
chicken-shit Norton Security Suite. As usual for Norton, which it is the
same PITA it was back in 2000, I quickly moved to NOD32 the 30 trial
version.

I have been using NOD32 since 2000 on Win 2K and XP Pro. NOD32 is quick on
the scans both it's online scanner and on request scanner, updates have been
fast, and it's light on the resources, as usual on Vista, so I purchased it
on a two year license.

Avast (free) or NOD32 (not free).

Thanks, all, for the suggestions. I have downloaded Avast and will give it a
try. First, though, I realize I must uninstall and eradicate Norton. From
reading on this group, I conclude it isn't all that easy to get rid of all
the Norton hooks. We'll see.

Go up to symantic's web site and download their 'norton uninstall' program
that cleanly uninstalls all versions of Norton. Works great, not sure why
they provide that, but its the only fast sure way to get rid of all traces
of all versions of Norton..

Because their own cr*p prevents aborted/botched Symantec installs from
completing :^)
