where can I find quicktime_codec_.so

Posted: 11-18-2005, 01:06 PM
When I try to insert an AVI file in a Cinelerra project, I get a message
that it can not find quicktime_codec_.so.

I googled and searched rpmfind.net , but I found no clue where this thing
might be hidden.
Anyone?

TIA

Look for a package called w32codecs.

Set up plf as one of your software repositories using
www.easyurpmi.zarb.org. Then install openquicktime and this should give
you the required codec.

Well, thanks both John and "Sinner" for trying to help me out, but neither
of the two packages you suggested contains this specific codec file. Do you
have yet another trick up your sleeve <grin>?

Maybe it's installed but not linked properly.
What does "locate quicktime" bring up?

Apple see Linux as a competitor, so if they once supplied proprietary
audio codecs for Linux, it's unlikely that they do now.

As a wild guess, try creating a sym link quicktime_codec_.so pointing at
quicktime_codec_ms.so which is in the openquicktime package.

See one of the other posts about creating quicktime_codec_.so as a symlink
to quicktime_codec_ms.so

I've no idea if that will work and can't test it here at work as I'm forced
into using WindowsXP. My home ISP (Wanadoo) doesn't yet carry a.o.l.mandriva
