Default where are my system files

I noticed that one of my users has a Windows XP system
and there appears to be NO system files (io.sys,
config.sys, etc.) The system runs and boots fine so I
know that somehow they are on the system, however, a
search does not find them. I heard that there is a way
for XP to store these files in a repair state and in fact
I have found copies (config.nt and autoexec.nt) in this
repair folder. Does anyone have any idea how this
happened and if I should be concerned about it.

Thanks!

Hi

I didn't think that io.sys was used in XP - it should be set to 0KB - as it is for input/output device parameters for an MS-DOS startup. I didn't think that config.sys - although not used in XP either - was a 'system' file, as a Win 9x PC will boot without that file - remember the 'clean boot ' - 'press F5 to bypass...'.

Hi Will,

If users want to see those 2 files, they can perform those steps. But since
we can see those 2 files after unchecking the option "Hide protected
operations system files (Recommended)", it shows Winxp treat them as system
files.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
