Where is the sound?

I have a Sony PCV-RX550 that is now about 3 years old. I
reformated the hard drive and re-installed the XP Home
operating system. Ever since, I have not been able to
get the sound card to work. I have gone through the
trouble shooting program without success.

Have you tried reinstalling the drivers for the soundcard? Have you check
the soundcard manufacturer's website for updates and new versions of the
drivers for the soundcard?

Have you made sure nothing is muted; open Control Panel, open Sounds and
Audio devices, click advanced and make sure nothing is muted. Also,
sometimes reinstalling or updating drivers for the Creative Soundcards will
result in the volume slider going almost to zero so be sure the volume
slider is midlevel or a little higher.
