Where is SP2's "trusted file handler" list?

Posted: 12-11-2004, 07:41 AM
Hi --

I installed a new graphic file viewer on an XP Pro SP2 box. The file
associations for graphic files changed to use this new program by default.
Now, however, every time I try to open a graphic, I get the SP2 "Open File"
warning box ("Do you really want to open this file?").

By what I have read about SP2, Windows' default behavior when opening files
is to trust the file handler, i.e. trust Notepad to open text files, but
don't trust .TXT files. This is what I'm running into -- Windows trusts the
Windows Picture and Fax Viewer to open graphic files, but not my other
graphics viewer.

Where does Windows keep this list of trusted applications? How do I add my
new viewer to the list?

Thanks,
CL

Ive never heard this trusted programs thing...

Just right click on the file you want to open with your new viewer and click
on OPEN WITH option. Either find the program you want in the list or add it
to the list. Dont forget to check the USE THIS PROGRAM ALWAYS option.
