which spyware?

Posted: 11-08-2003, 07:09 PM
Since I've had a problem with khookers I've read up on
alot of the spyware in your web-site "Dealing with
Unwanted Spyware and Parasites".
Now, the which one is best for us newbies? I need one
that will help me decide which one is good and which one
is bad because I have NO idea!
I downloaded the Ad-ware from lava but then noticed one
in the Parasite list under "Rapid blaster" it's
called "spywareblaster" under "wilderssecurity" web-site.
This one seems to tell me which one is the bad guy.
Should we and can we have both?
This only gets more confusing. Just think next its
the "SHREDDER".
Why can't this people just live and let live. Do they
really need to make everyones life harder by adding all
this stuff to our computers. I think we should find these
people and get them on assault charges!
In a better world these people would have REAL JOBS!
Thanks for your help MVP, lorie

IMHO, the best anti-spyware packages are AD-Aware and Spybot Search and
Destroy, and both are free.

Forget that stuff, its junk on youre system..
Use the xp firewall, run a good anti-virus and maintain
the os.Some of those(most),are spys on youre computer
by themselves, enabling all kinds of system manipulation.
But go ahead,"make thier day" !!!

Greetings --

To deal any sort of "adware" and/or "spyware,"such as Gator, Comet
Cursors, Xupiter, Bonzai Buddy, or KaZaA, and their remnants, that
you've deliberately (but without understanding the consequences)
installed, two products that are quite effective (at finding and
removing this type of scumware) are Ad-Aware from www.lavasoft.de and
SpyBot Search & Destroy from http://security.kolla.de/. Both have
free versions. It's even possible to use SpyBot Search & Destroy to
"immunize" your system against most future intrusions. I use both and
generally perform manual scans every week or so to clean out cookies,
etc.

good point.
first time i used spybot/adaware the things that showed
up were cookies. delete the cookies/tempfiles/history
and run spybot/adaware and nothing shows up....clean.

It's all a personal choice. I have used AdAware and found it moderately
effective. For the last couple of months I have been using a combination of
"SpyBot Search and Destroy" to remove sypware; and "Spyblaster" to keep
spyware from getting on my system. Both have definitions that need to be
updated from time to time.

>Spyware blaster will PREVENT over 800 different types of
spyware from being installed in the first place, such as
dialers and search page hijackins, adaware will inform
you after they are installed, they both have a different
perpose!and yes you can and should use both. If you are
concerned about spyware this is the site for you
www.spywareinfo.com

If you delete cookies before running these you will get
no spys. Also stay away from sites that want you to
download fonts and change homepage. Do not press NO
option because it will probably change homepage anyway.
Use taskmanager to end browser. Corner x is disabled
also. Test this at www.pumpkin.co.uk and press you back
button.

Nice link to a page that wants to change your homepage. I need one for
testing, but I always forget to keep a link to them. Ad-Aware, Spyblaster,
and Spybot will find more than cookies, and work very nice for me. The
people in the Spyware business are always coming up with new ways to infect
you.
