we have 9 systems in our network.all are running on
windows XP.when i try to connect to one system, it won't
ask for any password and directly shows Shared
Documents,Shared Printers and etc.But while trying to
connect to another system, it asks for password, and
restricts entry.we are thus unable to share folders as
every XP system here has ONLY ONE ADMINISTRATOR USER
ACCOUNT, and no other Guest accounts.Why it differs from
system to system ?

Has one of the computers got force password for network access turned on
(factory default) and the other turned off. I've generally used passwords
(all PC's have the same one) so don't run into this problem - even using the
username as the password.

I'm a little puzzled, because Windows XP doesn't have passwords for
shared folders. What do you see as a password prompt when you connect
to the other systems? Does it ask for both a user name and a
password? What is the complete text of the prompt?

Are the computers running Windows XP Home Edition or Windows XP
Professional? If it's Professional, have you disabled simple file
sharing?
