Why can't a USB HP printer (PSC 2110) be used remotely in a normal fashion?

Posted: 12-09-2003, 07:20 PM
I have a HP PSC 2110 printer. The manual says explicitely that it
can't be used remotely, without a USB-on-LAN box. Why is this?

Quote from the manual:

"If you want to connect more than one computer to your HP PSC in a
networked environment, you can do so using an HP JetDirect 175x and
USB (Windows and Macintosh), but only print functionality will be
available for the HP PSC."

Weird.

All other printers seem to be possible to connect to any Windows PC on
the network and be used from all others, but not this HP PSC 2110. Is
there something in Windows or the printer itself that prevent this?

I have suceeded in using the printer by calling it Deskjet 550c in the
remote PS, but it does not work very well, I'm afraid. It *does*
print, but with low resolution.

Any tricks I should know about?

Per Stromgren.

Perhaps, but I *did* write "Is there something in Windows or the
printer itself". For all that I know it could be Windows that prevents
this!

You sir, are a moron. The manual, in your words,
"explictely" (sic) says that what you want to do can't be
done. You go on to say that what you want to do seems to
be possible with "all other printers..." and that you have
had some measure of success with another HP driver.
What does this tell you? Do you really think this might be
an OS issue? Ready to contact HP now?

Sure.

Very friendly tone in this group, by the way!

I suggest that you contact HP about that. When looking at the documents on
their site about this all-in-one device, I see that you are unable to use
USB Printer Sharing on a Macintosh, but I don't see that about a PC. You
may just need to use a different driver to get better quality printing.

Form the HP support site, there is a link to contact HP support.
