SyncToy v1.2......why does Echo not delete files in the "right" folder after
they have been deleted in the "left?"

I am having the same problem and always have. Can't get folders deleted in
left pane deleted in right. I use Echo. Delected music files in left pane
always remain in right even after I run SynchToy 1.2. Had the same problem
in original version. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Wally

Hi

The Synctoy-help says about Echo: "Note: SyncToy does not delete folders."
I wonder why - it really annoys me too.
I hope it will be change in the next version.

Good Day,

I should have written my original reply more clearly. My experience was
that "Echo" FAILED to delete folders AND FILES. The big surprise was the
program's failure to delete files (had previously read of the folder bug).

The following work-around led to SychToy working properly in the future for
this folder group. I am not positive this is exact, or a direct causal
explanation, because it was done some time ago and I tried a few different
procedures to make the program work. However, it may be worth a try.

After running a "preview" using "Synchronize" to show me what files and
folders SHOULD have been deleted, I deleting the files manually. Then I
restored the original "Echo" setting. Then the next time I ran SyncToy using
"Echo" with this particular folder group, it deleted the correct files and
folders as it was designed to do. Your results may vary.

Because of this, I still use SynchToy for basic backups although I always
double check results to be sure.

Good luck!

Running a "preview" using "Synchronize" also shows, that folders is not
deleted, only files.

Same annoying bug here. Next time you fix something in SyncToy, please fix
this first!

Same issue experienced here. SyncToy 1.2.0.75 does not delete files on the
right when using Echo.

Example: I regularly backup the contents of my desktop to a folder on a
portable hard drive. My actual desktop currently has about 10 items on it.
The corresponding 'Desktop' folder on my portable drive now has 147 items,
taking up 293MB. Echo *is* copying the new files across, and modifying the
modified files, but it is *not* removing files which no longer exist.
