Why is Distiller crashing?

I am using Mac OZ 10.4.10. I've got Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional running and have Adobe Distiller 7.0 installed. However Distiller always crashes on startup. I have tried re-installing it but to no avail. Other people here can use Distiller without problems. Am I doing something wrong or is there something wrong with my machine?
As I have mentioned before on this forum I can always get leaner pdfs using Distiller rather than saving pdfs straight out of Illustrator, even though I use exactly the same settings for producing them. Until I get Distiller fixed properly it means that I have to hop over to another machine to do the distilling. A nuisance for all concerned.
Any ideas anyone?

What is your configuration how exactly is it crashing what causes it and do you have plug ins that are third parties any haxies any beta software anything out of the ordinary?

You might want to research this one a bit more, but check Settings>Font Locations. You'll see a list of sources that Distiller gets its fonts from. Make sure that the paths actually exist, delete them if they don't. But look into it a bit deeper first; I was having issues with Distiller (crashes, failed startups, Postscript errors) and my IT guy at work walked me through this solution. And clean your font caches, they seem to be the source of just about every problem anyone has with Illustrator, Acrobat or Distiller. There are a few utilities out there that save you the trouble of doing it manually (Font Finagler is one).
