Widows Media player updates

When I try to open media player i get a window saying I already have the most
recent version (10) and no updates are available. How do I open this player
without cheaking for updates?

Apparently not, but you can set the check to "once a month".
(Tools | Options | Player)

Remember that this may be a security issue.
