Will I loose what I have in works 2000 upgrading to XP from 98?

Hello!
I am about to upgrade to Windows XP, and I need to know if
I will still be able to use Microsoft Works 2000 when I do
so? And will I be able to access what I have saved in
Works? Thank you for any help in this matter!

Hi, Noel.

Depending on HOW you upgrade to WinXP, you may have to reinstall Works 2000,
but your data should be safe in any case - unless you reformat your drive,
of course. Works runs quite well under WinXP.

If you "upgrade" Win98 to WinXP, Setup will attempt to "migrate" all your
hardware device drivers and installed software - including Works - to the
new system. However, because WinXP handles hardware so much differently
from Win98, the migration often is imperfect, leaving you with things that
work - but not quite right. Most "upgraders" find that the niggling
problems are so irritating that they wind up reformatting and doing a "clean
install" of WinXP later, after all. The clean install also clears out a lot
of accumulated garbage that you've been meaning to get rid of, anyhow.

If you do a clean install, either now or later, you will need to reinstall
all your applications, including Works. The FAST (Files and Settings
Transfer wizard) can ease this process. So, there is no need to backup your
applications before reformatting your drive; you'll be reinstalling them
from CDs afterwards. But your data should be saved so that it can be
restored to your HD after the format and Works can continue to use the same
files.
