Hi Astro,

Sorry to disappoint you with their efficiency, but Vista RC1 was released on
August 29th. I downloaded it that day and installed it last Saturday on my
laptop - works GREAT I might add - and on my Media Center today. My laptop
has progressed with every release since 5231 so since I was only updating
from 5546 (?) it was not too much of a jump, but my Media Center which I tend
to update only every few builds (I think the last one was 5471) I saw a real
noticeable difference.

Now go download and have fun!

I have been in the beta program since June 8th and I have not received an
email yet. Seems there are many like me. Not sure how you got in on the
8/29 mailing and the rest of us did not?

I have been in beta since June 8th and I have not received the beta for RC1
invite. Seems that many here have the same issue.

Hi Marcus,

I have been in the beta program since October and can tell you this: Most of
the time nobody e-mails you an invitation to download the newest release.
You have to go to the site and see if it is available, or be in touch with
people in the community who will tip you off.

Beta testing is a pro-active activity; that is you cannot expect to sit back
and have anything handed to you. If you are on the true beta program
(Microsoft Connections) then there is a website with every download since the
first release available, as well as forums, announcements, and much more. If
you are on the public beta it will be more confined and you will not have all
of the releases and fixes readily available, but you still have to pay
attention.

Good luck!

I don't think this is true. I have been in TechBeta for 13 months and I
have received emails when new builds were available. Generally I get the
email a day or two after a new build shows up on Connect.

Montreal:
If I am not mistaken you have the PRE-RC 1 release that was released on
August 24,2006.
I have been testing the Vista Beta 2 since June 11,2006.I think there will
be another RC 1 not a Pre-release copy but the one for the public called RC 1.
Thank you

Hi Astro,

Actually you are mistaken but you are not alone. The Pre-RC1 was build 5536
which was available to download on August 25th. I am using RC1 which is
build 5600, which was released on August 29th. (though the announcement was
September 1st)
