Will XP find new HD or do I have to use HD installation disk

Posted: 11-07-2003, 01:22 AM
I purchased a Maxtor 200 GB ATA HD I have installed it as a slave on
the same 40 pin cable as my C: drive.

The drive came with a ATA/133 card which I don't think I need, and
also maxBlast3 installation software.

I'm runing XP pro, Service Pack 1, AMD 1800 GHZ with 2gb of RAM.

I'm not seeing the new HD. I was hopping XP would see the drive and I
would not have to run the MaxBlaster3 installation software. Do I need
to run it, I don't want an overley like I had with the old win98?

No, you do not need to run Max Blast.
Use Disk Management:

Are you sure you have the jumpers set correctly to master and slave. Also
get into your BIO and check the system config.
Cheers Doug

You're going to need an 80 wire cable. You don't have to use MaBlast... but
you will need SP1 installed and a motherboard that supports 48 bit drives.

When in doubt, follow the instructions.

Ugh! I had to flash the BIOS and now I'm dealing with my first BSOD in
XP pro. :-(

Stop 0x 0000008E (0XC0000005,0X88129E13,0XB81D097,0X00000000)

I going to take sleeping pills and put my head in the oven. Too bad
it's an electric oven. Not a happy camper, but I had better get some
sleep before I make matters worse. I don't want to take this to a shop
and spend $100 to correct this error. Ugh.

If you saved your old bios you can re-flash it back. Otherwise you can
download your original bios from the motherboard manufacturer.

Like the old proverd - If it ain't broke - Don't fix it !

Ronk, I may have to do that just to debug the system, but I need to
get my new HD working at full volume 200 gig.

Good news! I'm a happy camper. I just formatted the 200 GB hard drive.
The new drive came with a Ultra ATA/133 PCI Adapter card. I removed
the drive and installed the card, and a second rack. Then installed
the drive and every thing installed without a glitch. That problem is
solved. I love XP Pro. If this had been a Win 98 problem I would have
lost data. I still have some tweaking to do I'll do another post about
that. Thank for all the advice.
