what about the xp home oem edition?

OEM is OEM is OEM.

Retail vs. OEM, it doesn't make any difference whether
you're talking about Home or Pro, OEM won't do upgrades, I
don't think it will offer any of the partition and format
tools IF the drive is not empty.

im only doing a motherboad upgrade with xp pro oem. i've done that
multiple times with xp home retail. keep in mind im not upgrading xp
pro oem im just reinstalling it via reformatting/reinstalling.

Just remember, OEM software is tied to the computer it is
first installed on. Also with OEM you need a means to
install OEM on a clean (empty hard drive). It will do a
repair install, but if you want to activate XP you'll run
into issues.

i've found my answer from talking to a few people, including some
local pc shops. yes, it will work i'll just have to call microsoft to
reactivate it.

You can upgrade the computer hardware that has OEM Windows installed.
OEM normally can not be used to upgrade a previous OS to Windows XP,
OEM is Clean Installation only.
You normally can not transfer OEM from one computer to another
regardless the condition of the original computer.
Just as with retail, hardware upgrades may trigger activation which
will be accepted as long as the computer is the same.
