Win 2000 + Win XP Embedded Professional

Posted: 01-22-2004, 09:31 AM
Hi,
When I boot into a newly created runtime image of Win XP Embedded, I get a blue screen with this message:

STOP 0x00000074 (0x03, 0x02, 0x80087000, 0xC000014C)

This is how I created the boot image:

- Started with a normal PC, having 2 partitions - C drive containing Win 2000. This is where I have my Windows XP
Embedded development suite (evaluation version) installed. I built the Win XP runtime images on this drive using
the evaluation version of Win XP Embedded dev suite.
- Copied the generated files (from the target designer, after building the image) onto D: drive.
- Made changes in the c:\boot.ini to dual boot the system - booting in Win2000 or WinXP embedded.

This is what happens when I restart the machine:

- I get the boot menu. When I select Win 2000, the system boots as usual. No troubles.
- When I select WinXP embedded, the system displays the "Starting up..." progress bar, and immediately stops with
the blue screen, giving a BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO message, along with the stop code:

STOP 0x00000074 (0x03, 0x02, 0x80087000, 0xC000014C)

Regards,
Arvind.

Hi Arvin,
I had the same problem too.
I replaced my ntldr and ntdetect.com shipped with w2k,
with those from XP (They are in your image folder eg),
because they can't boot XP. After that I could boot my XP
images 8-).

Maybe the MS guys can put this in the documentation...

Maarten

Hi Maarten,
Thanks, it worked.

By the way, MS mentions something similar in its knowledge base article 283433 too (see the resolution section of that article).

Thanks,
Arvind.
