Win Vista Beta 2 "Expanding Files" Computer Freezes

Posted: 06-10-2006, 06:20 PM
Hello, I have been trying to install the Beta in my Shuttle XPC system, and I
was able to burn the ISO image, copy the files to a folde in the HD and start
the installation process. My computer seems to be freezing at certain points
of the "expanding files" process of installation. Sometimes it freezes at
26%, at 60% and twice at 99%.

Anyone experiencing this???

Thanks,

FR

I didn't have that problem, but it suggests a bad DVD, doesn't it? Have you
tried to
make another one from the ISO while specifying a slow burn speed?
Did you check the MD5 hash on the ISO you downloaded to make sure it's
error-free?
If the ISO is MD5-perfect, AND you're installing a dual-boot setup, you
might want to try to simply mounting the ISO as a virtual drive from within
your present OS and launching Setup from there.

I did try the scenarios you pointed out but unfortunately it is still
freezing in the third step of installation. Don't know what else to do.

Could it be running out of room? Setup is supposed to verify before
it starts that there's enough room to expand files, but if the ISO is
MD5-perfect, and this error occurs when you're actually running the
setup from the ISO in a virtual drive, then I can't think of anything
other than that. How big is the drive on which you're installing
Vista?

The drive is 250gb.

Had the same issue. Try installing Vista in Safe Mode, it worked for me. This
is a very dirty workaround though (I know have a GC problem... don't know if
it's connected), so let me know if you found a real solution.

My Safe Mode does not allow installation. How did you accomplish this?

I was also getting the errors with expanding files. For me it seems like a
Hard Drive issue...while the drive still works, it was clicking, tried both
x86 adn 64bit twice each. Replaced the hard drive and it installed with no
issues...

So I would guess, bad hard drive or not enough room.
