Win XP IPconfig not recognized

I recently brought my laptop which is brand new to
college and attempted to access the college ethernet. But
when I tried releasing and renewing my IP, the dos prompt
is not
recognizing "ipconfig", "ipconfig /release". "ipconfig /re
new" or anything similar as a command. Any information
that could be helpful will be appreciated. Thank You

If the college LAN is using DHCP, just make sure your LAN connection TCP/IP
settings are set to 'Obtain an address automatically' (same with the DNS
servers). I wouldn't worry so much about leasing and releasing the IP. This
will occur during a reboot anyway, but not recognizing the ipconfig command
is a problem.

Try running, at a Dos prompt, 'sfc /scannow'
