WIN XP PRO RESETTING ON ITS OWN?! PLEASE HELP

Posted: 07-20-2004, 02:38 PM
Hello

Over the last few weeks my pc has started to reset its
self without warning. It completely resets as if the
reset button has been pressed.

It only seems to do it when I am actively using the pc. I
tried to find the cause of the problem through trial and
error but I've hit a brick wall.

I thought that it may of been a software conflict and at
the time of the resets I was using MS FrontPage. I
stopped using that for a while but the problem persisted.
I've reformatted my h/d and reinstalled win xp and only
installed programs that have worked without problem in
the past, yet the resets continue to happen so I know my
programs are not the cause.

I've checked all the obvious, virus check, overheating
etc and everything is ok there, which leaves me to
believe its a problem with windows itself.

Once I had rebooted I check the 'Event viewer/system log'
which advises me the following....

'The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck
was: 0x000000d1 (0x627fe3e4, 0x00000002, 0x00000000,
0xf77e9e2a). A dump was saved in:
C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini072004-01.dmp.'

Does this jargon mean anything to anyone? Or does anyone
have any suggestions how I can put a stop to this problem?

Thanks in advance.

The value 0x000000d1 (often abbreviated as 0xD1) typically means that you
have incompatible or misconfigured hardware or software.

To start troubleshooting, look for 0x000000d1 in the Microsoft knowledge
base.
